PROMPT > "Educating America."  Write a paragraph or so on the following:
In Part I of The McGuffey Readers text is an introductory essay by Elliott J. Gorn that aims to provide context.  He cites another to say that "they McGuffey readers melded Christian values with middle-class ideals to form a blueprint for American culture."  What are some of those values and ideals that Gorn mentions?  Be specific in your response. What blueprint was being developed in America c. 1879?
