Objective: Encourage regular attendance
Why:  There is a direct correlation between class attendance and performance on essay exams

> Attendance for group work: taken each session
> Periodic attendance: taken six times during the term, with five counted (everyone gets one--and just one--excused absence).  It is not viable for you to ask for points that you did not earn by asking for an exemption. 

You must be there the whole time during class--there is no partial credit.
